The Early Career Success of Nikola Jokic

A former business student at Arizona State University, Darwin Horan serves as president of Englewood, Colorado's Ventana Capital, where he raises capital for land development in the commercial, residential, and oil and gas sectors, among others. Outside of his professional pursuits, Darwin Horan follows the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets received a major boost to their lineup for their December 15 contest against the New Orleans Pelicans when third-year center Nikola Jokic returned after missing more than two weeks due to a swollen left ankle. He recorded 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in just 22 minutes as he helped the Nuggets beat the Pelicans 117-111.

A native of Sombor, Serbia, Jokic has been a rising star for the Nuggets in the past two seasons. Selected 41st overall in the 2014 NBA Draft, he joined the team for the 2015-16 season and was named to the All-Rookie team after averaging 10 points, seven rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He improved upon those numbers in the 2016-17 season, averaging 16.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game while recording an impressive 57.8 field goal percentage.

While he has averaged slightly fewer points and assists per game this season, Jokic is averaging a career-high 10.6 rebounds and has improved his shooting efficiency from the three-point range, which stands at 40.8 percent, up from 32.4 last season.
